What is the International Baccalaureate?

The International Baccalaureate aims to educate young people who are knowledgeable, informed and eager for knowledge, capable of contributing to creating a better and more peaceful world, within the framework of mutual understanding and intercultural respect.

The best international universities demand students who have completed the International Baccalaureate, in countries such as Argentina, Australia, Canada, Costa Rica, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Mexico, the Netherlands, Paraguay, Singapore, Spain, the United Kingdom, the United States…

These programmes encourage students from all over the world to adopt an active attitude of lifelong learning, to be compassionate and to understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.

The IB offers a strong continuum of student-centred learning programmes from ages 3 to 19.

Students in IB World Schools receive an exceptional education in which they:

  • They are encouraged to think critically and solve complex problems.
  • Direct their own learning
  • They pursue educational programmes that can help them gain entry to some of the world’s most prestigious universities
  • Become more culturally aware through learning a second language
  • Are able to interact with others in an increasingly globalised and rapidly changing world.

Students in IB World Schools achieve strong academic, social and emotional development. Moreover, they tend to perform well academically, often better than students in other programmes.

The IB programme is a system that:

  • Is learner-centred
  • Develops effective teaching and learning approaches
  • Takes place within global contexts, contributing to students’ understanding of different languages and cultures
  • Explores meaningful content, which develops disciplinary and interdisciplinary understanding that meets rigorous international standards

IB education aims to transform students and schools in the course of their learning through dynamic cycles of enquiry, action and reflection.  Teachers support and empower students as they develop the approaches to learning necessary for academic and personal success.

The IB aims to help students explore and construct their own personal and cultural identities.
