How to get an A* in A-Level English Literature?

We all know that studying and working in class are the base steps to perform well in an exam, but here you have some teacher-made tips that can help you get the highest grade in your A-Level English Literature exams:

-📖 Know the texts you have picked like the back of your hand: reading for class is different than reading for pleasure. When you are reading for class, you have to re-read the works as many times as required for you to know exactly what, where, when, why, how and to whom something happens.

-✍Make sure that you writing is formal and academic: the content of your essay is important, so is the form. You cannot write an exam essay as if you were writing an email to a friend, follow the rules of academic English and practice writing formal essays as much as necessary -consult the exemplar essays with high grades that exam boards facilitate 😉.

-💡 Your ideas have to be properly organized: examiners don’t like essays that are difficult to read, if your ideas are not clear and properly developed, examiners won’t value them. Following the P-E-E structure in each of your paragraphs is always a guarantee of success.

-👨‍💻 Consult as much bibliography and extra material as possible: the more theories and explanations you have consulted about a literary work, the more ideas and thoughts you will have and the more wholly you will understand a work and its contexts.

Did you know that the first reading of an exam can greatly impact your results?🤔

Following an adequate technique when first approaching an exam is crucial: it helps you manage your time wisely and maintain motivation, which will ultimately affect your grade. Use the following method to tackle any exam like a pro.

🗺️Create a ‘key’ to apply all throughout the exam based on how much you think you know about each question:

For questions you know perfectly and can answer quickly

For questions you know but will take longer to answer

For questions you know in halves

For questions you know only a bit

For questions you don’t know

After you have adequately cataloged your questions, you will start answering the ‘1s’, followed by the ‘2s’, the ‘3s’, the ‘4s’ and, lastly, the ‘5s’.

By following this method, you will make the most of the time you have without wasting time in questions you don’t know and losing it for questions you do know. On top of this, you will also maintain your motivation throughout the exam, which grants betters responses and results. 🙌

TIPS ON HOW TO GET AN A IN GCSE ENGLISH

Studying and paying attention in class are important to get a good grade in your GCSE English exams, but this is not always enough to get an A+. Here are some tips that will get you the highest grade -teacher’s words 😉 – 
Read as many texts and types of texts as possible: fill your mind with words and knowledge about different topics. You never know which topics will appear in the exam, be prepared for any and enjoy the process of enriching your mind and expanding your horizons.

Create a guide for each question of the exam: understanding what is being asked for you is crucial to provide a great response. Your question guide should explain in your own words what you are being asked and provide a few exemplar answers, make sure that your guide is trusted and helpful for you and consult it before your exam.

Make use of the ‘tools’ you have when writing: the content of your response is important, but making use of all the tools language has is key to get the most marks. Play with complex and sophisticated words, punctuation, sentence structure or paragraph division to take your writing from ‘good’ to ‘great’.

Evaluation

Assessment is a fundamental component of any educational programme and plays a key role in both supporting and measuring learning. Today, IB assessment is widely recognised for its ambitious standards of academic integrity.

Students’ final grade certificates

This is an official document stating the student’s results, which can be sent directly to a higher education institution such as a university. However, these certificates are not sent to students or other organisations.

Important deadlines for university and professional advisors

No later than three weeks after the examinations.

The coordinator or the school’s university and vocational adviser must send the IB a request to send the final transcripts to be legalised.

Before the publication of results

In order to be able to send the final transcripts, the coordinator or the school’s university and careers advisor must have the list of the universities chosen by each student.

End of September

In the case of requests for legalisation of the May examination session, the schools will receive the legalised results documents and the corresponding invoice.

 End of March

In the case of requests for legalisation of the November examination session, the schools will receive the legalised results documents and the corresponding invoice.
